CLARION — Punxsutawney’s Easton Renwick finished off his second round at the District 9 Golf Championships with a 2-over-par 74, which was more than good enough to claim a district title at Clarion Oaks Golf Club Saturday afternoon.

Renwick, who shot a 4-under 68 during Monday’s first round, finished with a 2-under 142 for a five-stroke victory over runner-up and teammate Jesse Branken, who finished with a 147.

The Chucks duo that led its team to a district team title on Monday made up one-third of the six-player regional qualifier group that contained another set of teammates — Elk County Catholic’s Darren Simons and Tom Schneider — along with Brookville’s Patrick Fritz and Bradford’s Josh Stauffer.

Those six players advance to the PIAA Western Regional Qualifier on Oct. 15 at Toms Run Country Club in Blairsville. There, the top 22 finishers will advance to the two-round PIAA Championships Oct. 20-21 at Heritage Hills Resort and Country Club in York.

Simons (151), Fritz (155) and Schneider (156) and Stauffer (156) finished behind the Chucks twosome. It was Branken who fired the best score on the second day with a 2-under 70. Simons finished with a 71 while Fritz shot a 75, Schneider a 77 and Stauffer a 79.

Simons and Fritz just made the cut after carding an 80 on the first day, but made it in. Saturday, they jumped over 11 golfers who beat them by as many as five strokes on Monday.

The top 16 scores, including ties, advanced to the second day of individual play from Monday. Those who missed the regional cut were Bradford’s Drew Kelly and Chris Mackey, and A-C Valley’s Logan Wetzel and Blayne McGuirk (157), Union’s Travis Anthony and Mitch Hunter (161), DuBois’ Matt Goodman and Redbank Valley’s Kevin Doverspike (162), Elk County Catholic’s Brian Smith (163), DuBois’ Jake Smithtro, Johnsonburg’s Ryan Wilhelm and Keystone’s Chandler Clark (164), Kane’s Mike Johnson (165) and Cody Leviere (171).
