WEST SUNBURY – It took 16 minutes for everyone to know there will be a new District 9 Class AA boys’ champion. Defending champion Brockway was outscored 25-9 in the second quarter by Moniteau Tuesday night in the opening round of the Class AA playoffs, and the Warriors cruised from there getting a 76-35 victory at Moniteau. The 25-9 second-quarter advantage allowed Moniteau (11-11) to take a 37-19 lead into halftime and that lead just continued to grow in the second half with the Warriors outscoring Brockway (7-16) 39-16 while invoking the Mercy Rule. Zach McCormick led a trio if Warriors in double figures with a game-high 21 points. Zach Sloan added 16 points and Kyle Armagost 15. Nick Anderson paced Brockway with 12 points. Fourth-seeded Moniteau will now face top-seeded Brookville in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym.
