ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic busted out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter on its way to a 63-45 win over Ridgway in the District 9 Class A boys’ basketball quarterfinals Saturday night at ECC.

Robby Wortman scored 11 of his game-high 17 points in the first quarter to help ECC (22-4) grab the big early lead.

The Crusaders continued the pressure in the second quarter extending their lead over Ridgway (14-11) to 32-15 by halftime and then 49-30 at the end of three quarters.

Joe Jacob added 10 points for ECC with Kyle Detsch chipping in nine, while Luke Daghir added seven and Ricky Pearsall and Tony Chiodo six each.

Eric Matheson tied for game-high honors with 17 points for Ridgway with Dom Aiello adding 15.

ECC will now face Coudersport in the semifinals Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
