COUDERSPORT – After a sluggish start, Coudersport exploded for 40 points in the middle two quarters to beat visiting Johnsonburg 53-40 in the opening round of the District 9 Class A girls’ basketball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Lady Falcons (17-6) trailed 10-5 at the end of the first quarter but outscored Johnsonburg (7-16) 20-6 in the second eight minutes to take a 25-16 halftime lead. Coudersport then put the game away by outscoring the Ramettes 20-12 in the third quarter to lead 45-28 going to the fourth quarter.

Hannah Fink paced Coudersport with 13 points including a 9 of 10 performance from the line. Katelyn Karpinski chipped in 11 points while Jenna Matzinger had 10.

Justis Myers and Rhiannon Fowler each had 10 points to lead Johnsonburg.

The game was really won at the foul line where Coudersport was 23 of 34. Johnsonburg shot just 3 of 8 from the line.

Coudersport will host 11th-seeded Clarion-Limestone, a 60-54 upset winner over Port Allegany, in the quarterfinals Thursday.
