CLARION – Cranberry dominated both ends of the floor to pull away for a 51-22 victory over Keystone in a District 9 Class AA semifinal game on Tuesday evening at Clarion Area High School.

On offense Hannah Heeter led a balanced attack with 19 points while Erica Adams added 11 and Sarah Lutz contributed 10.

"We had balanced scoring tonight and our defense really stepped up," said Cranberry head coach Chrissy Shumaker. "We were kind of able to put everything together tonight."

On defense Cranberry limited Keystone to just seven field goals for the game while also holding the Lady Panthers to single digits in all four quarters including just nine second half points.

"I would say we were able to run the floor a lot better than we did against Moniteau a week or so ago," said Shumaker. "That was our game plan and the girls executed that very well."

Jillian Love and Morgan Johnson each scored eight points for Keystone with six of Johnson's points coming from the free throw line.  Love hit a pair of three-pointers.

After Love gave Keystone their only lead of the game 3-2 on her first three, Cranberry used a 13-5 run to close out the quarter taking a 15-8 lead after one.

Cranberry started the second on an 8-0 run to push the lead to 23-8. Keystone stopped the run with 2:14 to play on Love's second three. Heather Deloe cut the lead to 10 before Heeter scored off a rebound at the buzzer for a 25-13 halftime lead.

Keystone shot just 4-of-20 from the field in the first half and 7-of-33 overall for the game. Cranberry made 12-of-26 first half shots and 24-of-46 for the game.

"We started strong in both halves and I think that took the wind out of their sails," said Shumaker. "Our defense was tough as we were able to mix things up and the girls ran the floor well. Our inside game was also very strong  with Hannah and Erica both playing big roles."

The Lady Berries put the game away with an 11-0 run to start the third pushing their lead to 36-13 with five minutes to play. The lead would reach 25 by the end of the quarter as Keystone once again could only muster two field goals and just seven points.

Cranberry held a 6-2 scoring edge in the fourth quarter to set the final score.

Cranberry will face Kane for the second straight season in the D9 Class AA title game at 6 p.m. Friday at Clarion University's Tippin Gym. Last season Cranberry beat Kane 43-30 to capture its second D9 title since joining the district in 2005.

NOTES - This is the third straight title game appearance for the Lady Berries, who lost to Karns City in the championship game in 2008 ... Cranberry qualified for the PIAA postseason with the win. If the Lady Berries lose the title game they will play in a play-in game Tuesday. If they win, they will play a first-round game next weekend (March 11-12).
