Oil City Derrick OIL CITY – Dylan Gravatt’s ally-oop layup off a Christian Schiffer inbound pass with 12 seconds left lifted District 10 champion Rocky Grove to a 46-45 win over Keystone, the third-place team from District 9, in the opening round of the PIAA Class A boys’ basketball playoffs Friday night at Oil City High School. Keystone had one last chance to win the game, but Nick Bowser’s shot bounced off both sides of the hoop before falling harmlessly into the hands of Gravatt. The play came after Keystone had called time-out to set up a halfcourt pass with eight seconds left mainly because Rocky Grove still had five fouls to give and was more than willing to give them to run out the clock. The pass bounced off a couple of hands before falling to Bowser. Rocky Grove led 35-32 going to the fourth quarter before Keystone started the quarter with an 11-5 run to take a 43-40 lead with two minutes left. But the Orioles got within one on a pair of Gravatt free throws, and then Chip Bell got a steal and a basket to give Rocky Grove a 44-43 lead. Dan Reed, though, answered back hitting a basket with 20 seconds left to put Keystone up one final time before Rocky Grove scored on the out-of-bounds play to win the game. Rocky Grove led by eight, 26-18, at halftime before Keystone got to within three going to the final eight minutes. Gravatt led all scorers with 18 points while Geoff Sanner had 10, including all eight in the second quarter for Rocky Grove. Bell added nine. Lexan Montana led Keystone with 11 points, Brett Zuck added 10 and Dan Reed nine. NOTES – The win avenged a 54-53 loss to Keystone in the season opener for Rocky Grove. In that game, Reed hit the game-winning shot for the Panthers at Keystone … The teams played in the same conference for four years from 2005-2008 in a brief flirtation with District 9 for Rocky Grove, who returned to District 10 prior to last season.
