PITTSBURGH – WPIAL champion Sewickley Academy jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead on its way to a 67-36 over Coudersport, the fourth-place team from District 9, in the opening round of the PIAA Class A boys’ basketball playoffs Friday night at North Hills High School.

Sewickley Academy led 44-23 at the break thanks to a 23-10 first quarter and a 21-13 seconds and then outscored Coudersport 18-7 in the third quarter.

Tom Droney led Sewickley Academy with 24 points, Carrington Motley added 17 and Peter Schramm 16.

Andrew Mickle and David Dupont each added 11 points for Coudersport.

Sewickley Academy will face Elk County Catholic in the second round Tuesday at a site and time to be announced.
