HERMITAGE – West Forest had no answer for Vincentian Academy’s size, as the Royals blocked 13 shots and got a triple-double from 6-foot-1 junior Gabby Baldasare on their way to a 54-32 win in the second round of the PIAA Class A girls’ basketball playoffs Wednesday night at Kennedy Catholic High School.

Baldasare had 11 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocked shots in the contest helping Vincentian Academy (18-7) race out to a 28-5 halftime lead and a 38-11 lead at the end of three quarters.

West Forest (23-5) shot just 18.4 percent (9 of 49) for the game including 2 of 25 (8 percent) in the first half. Fourteen of the Lady Indians 32 points came from the free-throw line with Geena Sneeringer closing out her career with a 17-point effort giving her 2,030 career points, the fourth most all-time in District 9 history.

Amanda Carll chipped in 10 points, 15 rebounds and six steals for West Forest, while Alyssa Dreihaup had ffour.

Ashlee Darby led the Royals with 16 points with Keturah Vactor adding 11.

NOTES – West Forest ended the game on an 18-3 run … Vincentian Academy is a young team with just two seniors. The Royals three-leading scorers were all underclassmen … West Forest seniors Sneeringer, Carll, Dreihaup, Rachel Greathouse, Grace Wallace, Tricia Johnston and Missy Dubrawka end their careers with a four-year record of 89-23 including three straight 20-win seasons and a pair of PIAA playoffs win. The Lady Indians had two District 9 Class A runner-up spots in those four years and a third-place finish while also winning the KSAC title last year … The game was the final in the storied career of long-time West Forest head coach Bob Wachob. Wachob finishes with a 31-year record of 483-234 (67.4 percent) … WPIAL champion Vincentian Academy will face Quigley Catholic, the third-place team from the WPIAL in the quarterfinals Saturday at a site and time to be determined. Vincentian Academy beat Quigley 62-52 in the WPIAL semifinals.
