HARRISBURG – Five District 9 basketball players – three girls and two boys – were named All-state basketball players by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers this week.

St. Marys’ Kayla Hoohuli headlines the list as a first-team Class AAA girls’ selection, the only first-team choice from District 9.

West Forest’s Geena Sneeringer is a second-team Class A girls’ choice, while Cranberry’s Hannah Heeter is a third-team Class AA selection.

Both of the boys’ all-state players came from Class A, as A-C Valley’s Allan Eaton and DuBois Central Catholic’s Chris Marshall are both third-team choices.

Hoohuli, a junior, led all scorers in Pennsylvania girls’ action this year averaging 30.3 points per game while adding 8.8 rebounds per game, 7.3 steals per game and 4.4 assists per game. She added 88 3-pointers and 85 blocked shots. Hoohuli enters her senior season with 1,951 career points.

Sneeringer, a senior, was third in District 9 in scoring averaging 19.1 ppg while adding 10.1 rebounds, 5.7 steals and 3.0 assists per contest. She became just the fourth player in District 9 history to score 2,000 career points ending with 2,030 points.

Heeter, a senior, was the second-leading scorer averaging 20.4 points, 13.7 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game while shooting 61.3 percent from the field and blocking 45 shots. She finished her career with 1,350 points.

Eaton, a junior, was the fourth-leading scorer in District 9 averaging 19.9 points per game to go with 11.3 rebounds per contest and 38 blocked shots. He shot 60.5 percent from the field and goes into his senior season with 1,058 career points.

Marshall, also a junior, was the sixth-leading scorer in District 9 averaging 18.9 points per game to go with 10.4 rebounds per game. He dished out 54 assists, had 51 steals and shot 56.7 percent from the field for the District 9 Class A champions. He enters his senior season with 934 career tallies.

NOTES – The All American Awards D9Sports.com All-District teams will be announced Saturday at the Alice R. Kozel Foundation All-Star basketball game banquet at the Pantall Hotel in Punxsutawney. The banquet precedes the 11th annual Alice R. Kozel All-Star basketball games being held this year at Punxsutawney High School. Girls’ tip-off is set for 4 p.m. followed by the boys’ tip at 6 p.m.
