PUNXSUTAWNEY – DuBois Central Catholic’s Chris Marshall, Smethport’s Kevin Lord and Brookville’s Bud Baughman were named the major All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com boys’ District 9 award winners at the Alice R. Kozel Foundation banquet Saturday afternoon in Punxsutawney.

The All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com All-District boys’ basketball teams were also announced at the banquet.

Marshall is the Player of the Year, Lord the Rookie of the Year and Baughman the Coach of the Year after sensational seasons.

A junior forward, Marshall led DCC to its first District 9 Class A title since 1976 by averaging 18.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while shooting 56.7 percent from the field. He dished out 54 assists and had 51 steals while ranking sixth in District 9 and leading the Allegheny Mountain League in scoring. He was named a third-team Class A all-state player this past week.

Lord, a sophomore guard, led the North Tier League and ranked 11th in District 9 in scoring at 16.5 points per game while helping the Hubbers to the District 9 Class A playoffs.

Baughman, Brookville’s first-year head coach, helped guide the Raiders to their first District 9 title (Class AA) since 1997 (Class AAA) with a 17-7 overall record, a 14-win improvement from last year.

In addition to the major award winners, three All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com District 9 All-District teams were announced.

Joining Marshall on the first team are A-C Valley junior Allan Eaton (19.9 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 60.5 percent shooting, third-team Class A All-State), Kane senior Dave Bucheit (17.0 ppg, 13.3 rpg, 70 blocked shots), Ridgway sophomore Eric Matheson (17.5 ppg, 4.7 apg, 3.2 rpg), Venango Catholic junior Maxx Rynd (26.5 ppg, 10.6 rpg, District 9’s leading scorer) and Union senior Scott Booth (23.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 55.1 percent shooting).

It is the third All-District award for Booth, who was a first-team choice last year and a third-team selection in 2008, while Eaton, who was the 2008 Rookie of the Year, earns first-team honors for the second straight year. It is also the second all-district award for Rynd, the 2009 Rookie of the Year, who was a third-team choice last season. The four underclassmen on the first team are the most underclassmen on the first team since there were four in 2005.

The second-team winners are North Clarion junior Jeremy Schmader (23.8 ppg), Moniteau sophomore Kyle Armagost (17.0 ppg, 7.6 apg, 7.0 rpg), Clarion-Limestone junior Brandon Bell (19.2 ppg, 10.3 rpg), Bradford senior Pug Fuhrman (16.0 ppg, 74 3-pointers), Elk County Catholic senior Robby Wortman (15.3 ppg, 55.3 percent shooting) and Clearfield senior Chad Zurat (15.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg).

It is the second all-district award for Schmader (2nd team in 2009) and Wortman (3rd team in 2009).

Third-team winners are Punxsutawney senior Dane Kopas (17.1 ppg, 7.0 rpg), Johnsonburg senior Matt Shuey (13.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Brookville senior Chad Brocious (12.1 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 4.2 apg), Brockway junior Nick Anderson (15.5 ppg), Kane senior Arie Paup (12.0 ppg, 14.0 rpg) and Cameron County junior Ryan Grimm (14.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg).
