Stimac and Smith, both quarterbacks, had equally outstanding seasons.
Stimac, a junior, led Karns City to a 12-1 overall record, a 7-0 KSAC mark, the District 9 Class AA championship and the PIAA Class AA playoffs. He ranks sixth in District 9 in passing with 1,540 yards while completing 47.2 percent of his passes (75 of 159) for 19 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He also ran 82 times for 462 yards (5.6 yards per carry) and nine scores and was the one offensive standout on an otherwise balanced Karns City squad.
Stimac was at his best in big games throwing for 206 yards and two touchdowns in the D9 title game against Moniteau while also throwing for 206 yards and two scores and running for 69 yards and a touchdown in a Week Seven victory over Moniteau that basically clinched the KSAC crown for the Gremlins. He also threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns vs. Forest Hills and 193 yards in a Week One come-from-behind win over St. Marys.
Smith had a record-setting season and career at Redbank Valley.
This year, the senior ranks third in District 9 in passing with 1,997 yards while completing 56.7 percent of his passes (119 of 210) for 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also ranks in the Top 25 in D9 in rushing with 128 carries for 593 yards and eight touchdowns.
Smith had a record-setting career at Redbank Valley. He is the school’s all-time passing touchdown leader (44) while his 29 touchdowns this season were also a school record and is six touchdown passes vs. Elk County Catholic in the opening round of the District 9 Class A playoffs are a school record.
Behind Smith, Redbank Valley went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the KSAC while reaching the District 9 Class A semifinals.
This is the second straight season Smith has been named the All American Awards & Engraving Monday Evening Quarterback Show KSAC Player of the Year.
Turner had a monster defensive season for the Gremlins recording 71 tackles (missing D9 Title game stats), 15 sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Opposing coaches consistently talked about how the senior defensive end was one of the few players they had to scheme around all season.
Shope, a sophomore, had a solid rookie campaign for Moniteau, which went 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the KSAC. He ranks fifth in District 9 in rushing with 1,011 yards on 150 carries with 12 touchdowns and is one of just five D9 running backs over 1,000 yards this season. He also added seven catches for 133 yards and two scores while helping the Warriors to the D9 Class AA title game.
Wasilowski guided Redbank Valley to the 10-2 overall record, a 6-1 KSAC mark and its second straight D9 Class A semifinal appearance despite having to replace nearly an entire offensive line from last year’s 8-4 overall and 6-1 KSAC squad. Few expected the Bulldogs to duplicate last year’s success let alone surpass last season’s win total. But Wasilowski, with a wide-open West Virginia-like offense and an undersized but solid defense, helped Redbank Valley do just that.
