FURMAN COMES OFF THE BENCH TO LIFT COUDERSPORT PAST FARRELL

Clarion – Coudersport used a 19-point, off-the-bench performance by Danielle Furman to get a 51-39 win over the Farrell Steelerettes in the second round of the PIAA Class A girls’ basketball playoffs Wednesday night at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym.

Furman came off the pine to hit three three-pointers for the Lady Falcons (28-1), winners of a single-season school record 28 straight games, to help them advance to the quarterfinals against Monessen Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

The Lady Falcons held a slim 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter before Farrell went ahead 15-14 in the second quarter. But Coudersport ended the half on a 9-0 run to take a 23-15 halftime lead.

Coudersport continued its run in the second half making it a 15-0 spurt with the first six points of half to take a 28-15 advantage.

Farrell’s Amber Chambers ended the run with a hoop with 5:11 left in the quarter, and the Steelerettes outscored Coudersport 10-5 the remainder of the quarter to go into the fourth quarter trailing by six points, 33-27.

In the fourth, Coudersport pulled away outscoring Farrell 18-12 to put the score at 51-39.

Kellie Tingley added 10 points for Coudersport, while Andrea Glassmire had nine.

Chambers led Farrell with 18 tallies.
