D9SPORTS.COM DISTRICT 9 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

TYLER SMITH -- SO., KANE, QB

Smith, who wasn't even the starting quarterback at the beginning of the season for Kane, led the Wolves to a District 9 Class A playoff spot.

Smith started the season as a wide receiver, but was forced into duty when starting quarterback Troy Wile got injured in the season opener against Smethport. Coming off the bench, Smith helped the Wolves upset the Hubbers setting the tone on what was a successful season.

The elusive sophomore ended up throwing for 1,195 yards and 14 touchdowns going 66-for-116 passing (56.9%). He also caught eight passes for 104 yards and scored 22 points.

Smith was named D9Sports.Com "Player of the Week" once in 2000.
