Brookville and Punxsutawney have played football 39 times since 1901 with Punxsutawney leading the series 20-18. The series started in 1901 and ran until 1906  excepted for 1903 before taking a hiatus until 1933. The teams then played every year except for three during World War II and in 1946 & 1947 until 1955. At that time, the teams stopped playing again until 1993. The Route 36 Trophy, which is awarded to the game’s winner, started in 1994.
