ST. MARYS GRAD BEIMEL MAKES PIRATES ROSTER

PITTSBURGH -- Fox Sports' Pittsburgh's Sports Beat and the Associated Press are is reporting that St. Marys native Joe Beimel has been told that he will make the major league roster for the Pittsburgh Pirates coming out of Spring Training.

Beimel, 23, who graduated from St. Marys High School and Duquesne University, pitched for two Pirate farm clubs last season.

He was 10-6 with a 3.36 ERA for Class A Lynchburg and 1-6 with a 4.16 ERA for Class AA Altoona in 2000.

Beimel is 0-2 with a 5.51 ERA in six spring training games (three starts) so far this season. 

He is expected to provide help in the bullpen and might also get a chance to start.
