CURWENSVILLE'S STRUBLE, ST. MARYS' PISANI WIN KOZEL ALL-STAR GAME 3-POINT CONTESTS

DUBOIS – Curwensville’s Dani Struble and St. Marys’ Louis Pisani were the Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 All-Star Games presented by Quaker Steak & Lube of State College Three-point contest winners Saturday at Penn State-DuBois.

The girls’ 3-point contest was held at halftime of the boys’ game, while the boys’ contest was held at halftime of the girls’ game.

It took overtime to decide the girls’ winner after Struble, Union’s Tiffany Corle, Punxsutawney ’s Samantha Reitz and Union ’s Janele Divins all finished the first round with 11 points each (each player received three shots from five station around the 3-point arc. The final shot from each station was worth two points). Struble then scored nine points as part of the first group of shooters in the playoff with Corle getting eight. In the second group, Reitz scored seven points and Divins five.

The boys’ contest was nearly as dramatic with Pisani, the last shooter in the contest, hitting his final shot – worth two points – to edge Elk County’ Catholic Jimmy Higgins 14-13 for the title. Higgins, who was in the first group of shooters after not even attempting a 3-pointer during the season, scored an amazing 13 points that looked like it might hold up until Pisani got hot.
