DUBOIS – Behind 24 points and 12 rebounds from game MVP John Ferraraccio (DuBois Central Catholic), the Blue Squad rallied from a 16-point deficit to defeat the White Team 93-89 in the 10th annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 Basketball Boys’ All-Star Game Saturday night at Penn State-DuBois.

Blue trailed 50-34 late in the first half and was still down 14, 57-43, early in the second half when it went on a 27-8 run to take a 70-65 lead halfway through the second half.

That advantage grew to as many as seven points twice, the final time at 86-79 with 4:15 to play before White rolled off an 8-2 run to close to within a single point, 88-87, with 2:10 to play.

But Levi Welder (St. Marys) hit a 3-pointer with 1:38 left that jump started a 5-0 spurt that restored the lead to six points, 93-87, with a minute to play.

A Brett Quiggle (St. Marys) triple with 12 seconds left gave White a chance by cutting the lead to 91-89, but Ferraraccio hit two free throws with 11 ticks on the clock to seal the victory.

Ferraraccio was 11 of 20 from the field tying the Kozel Game record for most field goals made in a game. Matt Shiner (Clearfield) added 17 points and five rebounds for Blue, while Joe Carson (Oswayo Valley) had 14 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots and Dan Sullivan (Cameron County) chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Josh Adams (West Forest) led Blue with 19 points and nine rebounds, Mark Shannon (Brockway) added 13 points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots and four assists and Jordan LaBue (DuBois) and Quiggle each had 11 tallies.
