DuBOIS – The 11th Annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 Basketball All-Star games are set to tip-off Saturday, April 10, at Punxsutawney Area High School.

The girls’ game starts at 4 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 6 p.m. At halftime of each game will be a 3-point shooting contest with the boys competing during the girls’ halftime and girls shooting during the boys’ halftime.

This year, 41 of the top senior players in District 9 were named to the four teams. Overall, 26 of the district’s 36 schools will be represented.

Those 41 players, along with 12 coaches and underclassmen who will be named to the D9Sports.Com All-American Awards & Engraving District 9 boys’ and girls’ All-District 9 basketball team, will be honored prior to the games at a banquet at the Pantall Hotel in downtown Punxsutawney.

“Punxsutawney is a great sports town. It’s great to be able to move the event every chance we can so more people can experience it in different facilities. We’re excited about the banquet at the Pantall Hotel, a perfect venue,” said Larry Salone, Kozel Games founder. “Hopefully, the community will come out to the games. We have plenty of talent and a lot of good kids playing in their final game as a high school player.”

Overall, five 1,000-point scorers are on the Kozel rosters. In the boys’ game, including Punxsutawney’s Dane Kopas and Union’s all-time leading scorer Scott Booth. West Forest’s 2,000-point scorer Geena Sneeringer, Cranberry’s Hannah Heeter and Elk County Catholic’s Emily Detsch are the three girls’ 1,000-point scorers.

The boys’ coaching staff consists of Glenn Bobak (North Clarion), Bill Shuey (Johnsonburg) and Dave Fuhrman (Bradford) on the Blue Squad while Bud Baughman (Brookville), Mike Nesbit (DuBois Central Catholic) and Chad Long (Punxsutawney) will coach the White Squad.
